Occasionally, you can also catch a glimpse of the silhouette of Mount Rinjani in Lombok in the distance.

2. Explore the Boardwalk
Sanur Beach boasts a lengthy coastline spanning approximately 7 kilometers, with a paved pathway running alongside it. This makes it an ideal spot for a leisurely morning stroll, jog, or bike ride.
The path offers a beautiful view with fishing boats, gardens of hotels, and restaurants along the beach. Sometimes, you can see the Mount Agung volcano in the background.
Access to the entire public beach area is complimentary, and you can typically rent sunbeds or bicycles for a low cost on the boardwalk.
Yoga enthusiasts can enjoy a complimentary morning yoga session at Pantai Karang, beginning at 7:30 AM each day. The class is open to all, so feel free to participate with a yoga mat or towel.
Starting in 2023, the entire beach walking path underwent renovations to increase its width. This update is well-received as the boardwalk tends to get crowded in the mornings.

While there are some standout areas, the majority of the beach is considered average. Despite this, Sanur is particularly popular with families, which is why many expats and locals from Bali enjoy visiting this beach.
The peaceful ocean waves and shallow waters, shielded by a reef, create a perfect environment for children to swim. During the summer months from May to August, there is a refreshing breeze that adds to the experience.

These festivals are open to the public and are a wonderful activity for families and individuals interested in immersing themselves in the local culture.

5. Setting baby sea turtles free
Occasionally, there may be opportunities to participate in a sea turtle release event at Sanur Beach, although these events are not as frequent as the ones held at Kuta Beach.
Every now and then, Olive ridley sea turtles continue to choose Sanur and other beaches in Bali to lay their eggs. Therefore, these eggs must be collected and relocated to protect them from predators and beachgoers.
After the baby sea turtles hatch, you have the opportunity to release them into the ocean by making a donation. This is a enjoyable experience for families and it also helps to support the conservation of sea turtles, a crucial effort in Bali.
The following program is conducted by the Turtle Conservation and Education Center (TCEC) located on the nearby Serangan island. This center is backed by the WWF and has been dedicated to the conservation and education of sea turtles in Bali since 2006.
Baby sea turtles are typically released in groups on Sanur Beach every month, with more releases occurring during the summer months. However, releases can take place at any time of the year.

Located in the northern part of Sanur, The ICON Mall is the largest mall in Bali. It offers a variety of shops, dining options, cultural performances, an IMAX theater, and upcoming attractions such as a butterfly park and outdoor pool area.
Many individuals are unhappy about the new mall opening in Sanur, which is understandable since Sanur has a reputation for being a peaceful area in Bali.
It appears likely that the mall will increase the amount of traffic, noise, and visitors in this location.
Icon Mall is a recently opened shopping center located near Sanur Beach.
My opinion on the mall is a bit conflicting. While I do enjoy it, I feel like it would be better suited in Kuta or Denpasar rather than Sanur. However, since it's already established here, we should try to enjoy what it has to offer.
The mall is attractive and seems like a good place for families with children to visit. I just hope that it doesn't cause too much traffic in Sanur once the initial excitement fades. Only time will tell.
The ICON Mall opened its doors for a soft launch on June 7, 2024, and there are still some improvements being made. However, it is mostly functioning and operational by 2025. Stay tuned for more information and photos.

7. Explore The Le Mayeur Museum
This museum is a quaint establishment honoring a Belgian painter from the 1930s and his wife from Bali. It is located in their previous residence in the northern part of Sanur Beach.
Opinions on the paintings at the museum vary, as some people find them to be nice. However, there have been complaints about the lack of maintenance and the absence of air conditioning. Foreign visitors have to pay an entrance fee of 100k Rupiah, which is considered to be somewhat expensive.
One of the primary motivations for visiting this location is to catch a glimpse of what Bali was like in the past, before it became heavily impacted by mass tourism, shopping centers, and the digital age.
8. Go for a run at the rice fields in Sanur. These rice fields are not well-known to tourists, but they are just as lush and green as the ones found in other parts of Bali, Indonesia.
There is a recently built walking path that is in excellent condition, allowing you to ride your bicycle or scooter on it for a pleasant and scenic journey.
Due to rapid development in Bali, particularly in the Sanur/Denpasar area, the rice paddies in the region may soon be replaced by buildings. It is recommended to appreciate them while they are still present.

The Sindhu Night Market is a compact market located in the northern part of Sanur. Here, visitors can sample various local dishes such as Nasi Campur, Satay, and Nasi Goreng at affordable prices.

The official operating hours for the night market are from 6 PM to 11 PM, although it often begins before that and may extend as late as 1 AM on busy nights.

Although there are many dive shops in Sanur, the area is not known for its surfing or snorkeling opportunities. However, the beach is a popular spot for activities like parasailing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, jet skiing, and banana boat rides.
For a special experience, consider renting a local fisherman to guide you on a traditional fishing boat called a 'jukung'. I have witnessed some impressive catches in the waters of this area.

Massage parlors are a common sight in Sanur, with many establishments offering massage services throughout the area.
Balinese massage is amazing and can be budget-friendly, with prices typically around 100k Rupiah ($7 USD) or less for a 1-hour body or foot massage.
Some of the top-rated massage establishments in Sanur include The Nest, KOA Boutique, and Leha Leha Spa. These places are highly recommended and it's advisable to make reservations in advance. However, you can also visit any spa in the area and still have a satisfying experience.
Numerous luxury resorts in Sanur offer their own spa and massage facilities, known for their high quality but come with a higher price tag.
We have always had positive experiences with massages in Bali. It is a great way to relax after a long day of activities like hiking or sightseeing.
Sanur massage is known for being top-notch and highly recommended.
12. Indulge in the dining options in Sanur, which offers a variety of excellent cafes and restaurants, particularly for breakfast.
Relax by the beach with a cup of coffee and feel the sand between your toes, or dine at one of the numerous restaurants on Jalan Danau Tamblingan, the main street in the area.

The Pura Blanjong Temple is a historic Hindu temple in southern Sanur, situated along Jalan Danau Poso, the main street in the area.
While it may not have the same level of beauty or appeal for photos as the top temples in Bali, there are people who may still find the historical significance of this place to be intriguing.
At Pura Blanjong, there is a stone pillar that is considered one of the oldest historical objects in Bali. The inscriptions on the pillar detail the achievements of the first known Balinese king, Sri Kesari Warmadewa, and his successes in battle.

15. Purchase a Day Pass for Pool Access
Certain hotels in Sanur offer day passes for access to their pool, allowing visitors to swim and relax on sunbeds and utilize other amenities without having to book a room for the night.
If you are traveling to Bali with a limited budget, purchasing a day pass like this can be a cost-effective way to enjoy a pool experience without spending too much money. Several hotels in Sanur, such as Prama, Swiss-Belresort, Gazebo Beach Hotel, Puri Santrian, InterContinental, Taksu, and others, have offered pool day passes at different times.
The typical cost for this activity ranges from 50,000 to 100,000 Rupiah per person for the entire day. However, the price may increase if meals and drinks are provided. To confirm the cost and check availability, it is recommended to contact the hotels directly.

16. Visit the Pod Chocolate Shop in Bali, known for their popular chocolate products. You can find their store in the northern part of Sanur, where you can purchase their delicious chocolate bars and spreads.
Chances are, you've come across their chocolate being sold at the Bali airport, but this nearby shop in Sanur offers a wider variety and more affordable prices. Visiting this shop is also more convenient than going to their main chocolate factory located in the north/central Bali area of Mengwi.
At Pod Bali, they offer complimentary chocolate tasting so customers can sample different flavors before making a purchase. They currently have over 20 flavors available for sale.
The chocolate store formerly known as The Pod Chocolate has been rebranded as 'Junglegold'.
Visit the Cat Cafe in Sanur, where cat enthusiasts can enjoy spending time with Bali's abandoned and stray cats. This cafe, established in 2019, houses nearly 40 cats that visitors can interact with by petting them and observing them play.
Instead of a regular cafe, this place operates as a cat rescue center. When you pay to enter, you also get a complimentary drink, and all the money collected is used to support the cats' needs such as healthcare, sterilization, medication, and vaccinations.

The Bajra Sandhi Monument is a large monument located in Denpasar, the capital city of Bali, which is only a 15-minute drive away from Sanur.
The structure is a tribute to the challenges faced by the people of Bali throughout history, and it houses a museum with air conditioning that was established in 2003.
In my opinion, it resembles the eerie fortress of a villain from a movie, but I find the design intriguing.
Many couples from the area enjoy taking prewedding photos at this location, which features a spacious courtyard and beautiful walking paths.

Explore the eerie remains of Taman Festival, an abandoned theme park located near Sanur that has become a popular attraction for dark tourism enthusiasts.
Taman Festival shut down in 1997 due to the Asian financial crisis and a decrease in tourist interest. The park, which cost $100 million USD to build, included attractions like a man-made volcano and a crocodile pit. Now, the park is abandoned, covered in graffiti, and being reclaimed by the surrounding jungle. Bats have begun to make the park their home.
Not everyone may find it appealing to explore a haunted park like this one, but I personally found it intriguing to witness the massive banyan trees slowly enveloping the buildings. It reminded me of the Angkor Wat temple complex in Cambodia.
To enter Taman Festival, there is a small fee of 20k Rupiah. Visitors are free to explore the area at their own pace, but it is recommended to bring mosquito repellent with you.

Experience camel rides on the beach in Nusa Dua, which is only a short drive away from Sanur.
The tours begin at Hilton Bali Resort in Nusa Dua, but they are operated by a separate company known as Bali Camel Safaris. Reservations can be made through WhatsApp by contacting +62 812-3615-8243.
Riding a camel on the beach may not be very exciting, as it is just a brief 30-60 minute walk. However, if you have never ridden a camel before, it can be a fun and memorable experience.
21. Explore The Bali Zoo, which is home to a diverse collection of wildlife, including species indigenous to Indonesia.
Visitors have the opportunity to take photos with exotic birds at this location, and the facilities and care for animals at the park appear to be of high quality. In my opinion, it is one of the top activities to enjoy in the vicinity of Sanur.

For those who have already visited the Bali Zoo and are interested in seeing a larger variety of tropical birds, there is a nearby bird and reptile park with over 1,000 different exotic bird species.

23. Explore the Nusa Islands on a Trip
Sanur is the starting point for visiting the Nusa islands, a collection of three small islands located near the eastern coast of Bali, Indonesia.
The island of Nusa Penida in the Bali province offers incredibly beautiful scenery, making it a great destination for exploring. Visitors could easily spend a week exploring Nusa Penida and its smaller neighboring islands, Nusa Lembongan and Ceningan.
Several speedboat companies operate daily trips from the modern harbor in northern Sanur to the Nusa islands, with the journey typically lasting around 45 minutes.
It is possible to take a day trip to the Nusa islands from Bali and come back on the same day, but I personally recommend staying longer to fully enjoy the experience.

Navigating Sanur
If you are located near Sanur Beach or Danau Tamblingan street, the area is easily walkable and most places are within walking distance.
Bluebird taxis in Sanur are readily accessible for short trips, but the rates are higher for tourists. It is more cost-effective to opt for ride-hailing apps such as Grab and Go-Jek. Unlike in Ubud, local taxis in Sanur do not seem to resist this alternative mode of transportation.
If you plan on venturing outside of the town, you can either rent a scooter or hire a private car and driver, both of which can be reserved online. Additionally, airport transfers to Sanur from the Bali airport can be organized through your hotel or online booking services.
The sunrise time is ideal for capturing beautiful images of Sanur.
In my opinion, the top beach in Sanur could be the small sandy area located in front of Tandjung Sari Hotel, which is a part of Segara Beach.
This location features smooth white sand, palm trees, and lounge chairs, and the employees regularly rake and tidy up the beach to maintain its pristine appearance.
One more beautiful beach in Sanur is located in front of the Hyatt Regency hotel, where you can find colorful jukung boats lined up along the shore. This beach offers stunning views of the Mount Agung volcano in the distance.

Vendors can be found at Sanur Beach, similar to other popular beaches in Bali. They sell items such as paper fans, knives, kites, bracelets, and handmade trinkets to visitors in order to make a living and support themselves financially.
The vendors at the beach in Sanur are not as forceful as those in Kuta, but some of them can still be insistent, which may bother you if you are simply looking to eat or unwind on the beach.
Along Jalan Danau Tamblingan, taxi drivers and local transport operators often approach tourists to offer them tours of Bali. Personally, I find the taxi drivers to be more bothersome, as they sometimes even shout at you from across the street, even when you're clearly busy or occupied.
If you are not truly interested in what a salesperson is offering, it is advisable to steer clear of interacting with them or making eye contact to prevent them from persistently bothering you. Avoid saying 'maybe later' as they may continue to follow up on your statement.
In my opinion, the most effective approach is to smile, politely decline, and continue on your way. If approached while relaxing on the beach, a simple 'no' or 'tidak' (tee-dah) is usually enough. Giving money to get rid of them may attract more beach sellers looking for the same treatment.

Activities to Enjoy in Sanur at Night
Although Sanur may not be famous for its nightlife, there are still activities available for those who seek them out.
In the evening, the Sindhu market in the northern part of Sanur becomes bustling with activity and typically remains open until around 11 PM. Visitors can enjoy affordable traditional food, as well as purchase fresh fruits and vegetables.
Sanur has a variety of options for bars in every part of the area, such as Casablanca, Arena Pub, Bamboo Bar, and Sand Beach Bar. The choices are plentiful and diverse, making it difficult to list them all.
Sanur is not known for its sunset views because it is located facing east. If you want to see a beautiful sunset in Sanur, your best bet is to enjoy a romantic dinner on the rooftop of the Maya Resort.
Maya offers a beautiful rooftop setting for elegant dinners, where guests can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the sunset. Reservations for this dinner can be made directly with Maya.
Is Sanur a Safe Destination?
Absolutely, Sanur is considered to be a very safe area, particularly in Bali. By simply taking standard safety measures, visitors should not encounter any problems during their stay.
I have taken my camera equipment to the beach before sunrise multiple times, and often see many other photographers there capturing the sunrise.
Many individuals begin jogging along the path at Sanur Beach even before the sun rises. Bali and Indonesia as a whole have low rates of violent crime.
One important thing to be cautious of is the occurrence of drive-by phone thefts in certain areas of Bali. It is recommended to keep your phone out of sight when you are near a busy road with motorbikes passing by.
Children are also able to swim at Sanur Beach.
Exploring the waters for snorkeling in Sanur may not meet your expectations. While there is a possibility of encountering fish and coral, the visibility is usually poor and there is limited marine life to observe in the area.
One great thing is that it's simple to take a day trip from Sanur to Nusa Penida island, where you can enjoy snorkeling with beautiful fish and coral. Nusa Penida is known as one of the top locations globally for swimming with manta rays and huge mola mola fish.
Travelers have the option to visit Nusa Penida and organize a snorkeling excursion at Toyapakeh boat harbor independently. Alternatively, they can choose to book a day tour from Bali that includes hotel pickup and a speed boat ride for convenience.

Bali experiences its rainy season from November to April. The daytime weather can be hot and humid, with temperatures ranging from 32 to 35 °C (90 to 95 °F). Despite the heat, this season tends to be less crowded, and rain typically falls in the evening or at night.
During the months of May to August, the temperatures are lower, and there is more wind and sunshine. This time of year is known for being windy but pleasant, with many tourists visiting during this peak season, resulting in larger crowds.
